| Bill
and Marilyn are the newest members of the Blacklake Gyros. Bill
was born in Chicago and Marilyn in Minneapolis. His birthday is
September 17 and hers is December 7. Their wedding anniversary is
April 21. Bill attended DePaul University when the U.S. entered World War II. He volunteered for the Army Air Force and served in New Guinea and other places in the South Pacific. Because of his last name, he was nicknamed “Bomber”. This was appropriate because he flew missions as a bombardier on B-24s with the 400th Squadron, 90th Bomb Group (“Jolly Rogers”). |

| After
World War II, he left the service and was working for the Los Angeles
Fire Department when the Korean War broke out. Bill was recalled
into the Air Force and flew electronic counter-measure missions in
RB-47s for the 55th Electronics Group off the coast of Korea over the
Sea of Japan. In addition to being a fireman, Bill also worked as a builder in Los Angeles and is currently licensed. He participated in the restoration of the Gamble House in Pasadena as well as in other homes built by the Greene & Greene company. Bill met Marilyn on a blind date set up for them by mutual friends. Before meeting, neither Bill nor Marilyn wanted any part of the blind date and had to be coerced into it. Bill’s friend told him they were going to a barbeque at Marilyn’s house, and Marilyn’s friend told her that they were going to be taken out to dinner. As the evening grew late at the house and Bill could see that no preparations were being made for the barbeque, he suggested that all four go out to dinner. Marilyn thought to herself "It’s about time!!”. Although Bill offered to drive, Marilyn insisted that they take her car, which turned out to have an empty gas tank. So Bill sprung for a tank of gas. To top it all off, Bill’s friend stiffed Bill for the dinner check. Since Bill was gracious about the whole affair it led Marilyn to think, “He must be a really nice guy!”. The Bomicinos have a son living in Woodland Hills and a grandson who recently graduated from Cal Poly and also received his pilot’s license. They moved to The Estates in March 1998. Bill is President of the Estates Homeowners Association and serves on the Village Council board and the Architectural Review Committee. He is currently Chairman of the Community Building and Parks Committee. Bill likes to cook. (He learned cooking while serving 1-1/2 years in the CCC.) They both enjoy traveling and have traveled all over the world. Marilyn usually prepares the travel itinerary. Some of their favorites are Egypt and an African Safari. Marilyn is also interested in genealogy. |
