Ken comes from a ‘show-biz’ family, and he and Dorris started off their mairiage after both were discharged from the Marine Corps. They had met, and were married when both were stationed at the USMC base at El Toro, California. Ken says ‘gigs’ were not plentiful in 1946 in the Chicago area, and he realized that he had to get a ‘day job’ in order to support his growing family. (The final count of 3 sons, 2 daughters, 3 grandchildren and 1 GREAT grandchild, complete this family circle.)
Semi-retirement found Ken and Dorris living in Oxnard Shores for 18 years, where they did lots of sailing on their 25-foot Coronado sailboat. The joined a group of other owners of Coronado-25s and had lots of fun with their boating activities. Ken still owns the Oxnard home and leases out his boat.
Ken plans to remain here at Blacklake, among all his friends and where his life is fairly settled. Ken improved his culinary skills while caring for Dorris during her illness. They traded recipes and, as we all know, Ken learned to make Dorris’ famous oven-baked potatoes.
Ken keeps busy with ‘most everything but golf. He plans to get back to golf as soon as he is physically able.
Ken and Dorris had a full life, comfortable and compatible. They would have celebrated their 55th anniversary in May 2001. Ken holds many fond memories of their life together, the special places they like to go, sailing, dining out, and just being together at home.
In Ken’s words, “I thank the dear Lord for those 55 years I was able to have her, and now I guess it’s His time to have her back”.
