Cliff & Carol Trotter

What a great “job” I have!!  I get to interview each of our new members and learn a little bit about them before all the rest of the Gyros meet them.  Today I talked with Carol and Cliff Trotter in their lovely home in the Lower Oaks.  What a pleasure!  Both are personable and have so much to offer to our little community here.  Most of you have heard that Cliff replaced Al Simon as Director on the NCSD.  And we are fortunate to have him in that position.  He has a strong and varied background, and to sum it up, “his head is screwed on right”.  Cliff is a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of California, a very prestigious accomplishment. Previously, the Trotters farmed poultry and citrus in the San Fernando Valley, oranges in Tulare as a side enterprise for forty years.  He was Engineer-Manager of a Water Storage District in Kern County from 1967 to 1992.  He also built irrigation systems.

Carol is an excellent seamstress and loves to sew.  She worked with, and for, Interior Designers, so she comes as a complete package.

Cliff’s and Carol’s parents were neighbors in the San Fernando Valley, and thus Cliff, who attended UCLA, figured this was justification for offering Carol (who was at that time a student at Van Nuys High School) a ride.  She refused!  Later, he tried the “good Neighbor” angle again.  This time it worked.  They were married 6 months later, on September 4, 1954.  (Moral: If you’re not ready to make a commitment, be careful about who you offer a ride to.)

While living in Bakersfield, with friends they visited and played golf here at Blacklake.  They always loved the area, so when the time was right (January 5, 2001), they moved here from Bakersfield, lock, stock and barrel.

One of their married daughters lives in Santa Barbara, the other in Bakersfield.  Each daughter has 2 children, so Cliff and Carol are conveniently located to visit their grandchildren frequently.

You may have noticed a 1929 Model-A convertible in “cherry” condition tooling around the neighborhood.  Well, that’s Cliff’s pride and joy (next to Carol, that is).  He restored it (the car, not Carol) about 45 years ago.  If you’d like to know more about it, just bring up the subject in a conversation with Cliff.

The small world comes into play when we discovered Cliff had gone to the same elementary and junior high schools in West Los Angeles as had Bob and I.  It was a joy to chat with this couple.  They are very interesting persons.

Carol suffered a mild heart attack on November 15, 2001, resulting in an angioplasty and a stent.  She says she feel fine now and looks great, and is back to better than normal. So welcome to Gyrodom, Carol and Cliff.  We’re glad to have you both aboard.
